I grew up in Canberra in the ACT going to a bilingual school where lessons were taught in both English and Spanish of all things. Not much of that stuck with me as at the age of about 10 years old my family moved to Hobart Tasmania. I have spent the last 30 years there. It was from Hobart that I began sailing and spent a lot of time bush walking around the state.
From about 14 years old I started to compete in offshore ocean racing including races like the Maria Is race and many others culminating in my first Sydney to Hobart at 16 years old. (How I wish I had my camera through all of those years!!) Over time and with the birth of my son heading away to compete for weeks at a time wasn’t an option and work began to consume more of my time as well.
Working in the IT field for the past 20 something years and now as a project manager I have had the opportunity to travel quite a bit and that opened the door for lugging a camera around with me.
I have always had an interest in photography since I was very young with memories of carrying a Pentax SLR camera around the Hobart waterfront with me to take pictures of the boats after a Sydney to Hobart race not knowing that I would end up competing but dreaming of one day doing it.
About 5 years ago I made the conscious decision to purchase some decent equipment and actually invest some time into taking pictures and sharing them. I have made some wonderful friends through this pursuit and even though I still need a “normal day job” I enjoy getting out and about with my camera.
We have decided to relocate to Brisbane after 30 years in Tasmania, Which brings with it a number of opportunities and risks but also a huge number of locations to get out and explore and photograph.
